Hawkeye fans were introduced to a new WR last night at the annual Kid’s Day scrimmage – JUCO transfer Damond Powell. You know, Damond Powell. He is the guy that got the “fast” label pinned on him at the Media Day. Last night, he certainly lived up to that expectation in a big way. Damond was noticeably fast to the most casual of observers. I’m not a stats guy, so I’ll leave that to the experts. But it seemed as though he was in on most every successful pass play. He was mostly lined up with the 2s and made the most of every opportunity, certainly improving the stature of his QB. To be fair, he was also lined up mostly against the defensive 2s. But, nonetheless, he caught everything thrown to him. Here is a sequence of his touchdown play – a beautifully executed jump, catch and roll to the end zone. The QB on this play was CJ Beathard.
