Top Shots: Iowa vs. Minnesota

The weather was simply spectacular on Saturday as Iowa took on Minnesota for the right to claim the Floyd of Rosedale trophy.  This game was the B1G opener for both teams.  Iowa won the game 31-13 fueled by 24 unanswered points in the first half.  The bright blue skies were helpful to me in capturing some decent images from the game.  Since we have a bye week this week, and a road game at Michigan State that we’re not attending before the Penn State Game Oct. 20 at Kinnick, I’ll have plenty of opportunity to drain the shots I took of this game for all it was worth!  Hang in there with me.

As always, click on any shot for a larger view!

Some good action and eye shots in this photo. In particular, those game face eyes of Tom Donatell (13) are in clear view.

OT Brandon Scherff (68) ends up on his head on this play.

Captain Kirk and Coach Doyle give the refs an earful during this lengthy review of a play.

Louis Trinca-Pasat (90) gets some pressure on Gopher stand-in QB Shortell. MarQueis Gray was injured and did not play in the game for Minnesota.

QB James Vandenberg does some play action on this fake feed to Mark Weisman.

Hawkeye DB Greg Castillo (2) gets in position and goes up high for the pick and makes a big play.

The Hawkeye offensive line is making big strides lately. Here, Mark Weisman (45) breaks through another huge hole as C James Ferentz (53) watches him run through.

Hawk fans are not growing tired of seeing Weisman display his huge strides and powerful stiff arms.  I have several series of shots from various plays that I will be posting of Weisman in the coming days.  All in all, a great performance by the Hawkeyes against Minnesota.  A balanced attack led by a very powerful running game simply wore down the Gopher defense.  Let’s hope that trend continues through the bye week, along with the great weather.

More to come….GO HAWKS!

Hawkeye players line up in sprint formation as the game clock winds down preparing to run across the field to re-claim Floyd of Rosedale. Everything is better with BACON!
